Leg Update

Grace went back to the dr. today to have her leg checked and for her two year checkup. They x-rayed her leg again because the first x-ray was very unclear as to how bad the beak was. Those type of fractures don't show up well until they begin to heal. They thought the pain was more a sprain. A sprain should be getting better and she still isn't using it so the dr. decided another look would be good. The break was more evident this time so we have to keep her cast on again for 2 weeks and go back for another checkup. We were trying to slowly take away the cast and get her to use her leg but now they want us to leave it on and discourage walking on it. Poor baby! All week we have been pushing her to try and walk and use it more and more without a cast and now we are changing the plan on her!

In other news Grace has grown a lot! Her height is now in the 75th percentile for her age meaning she is taller than 75% of kids her age that number is 85% if we adjust for her being premature. Her weight is another story. That's at the 20th percentile and she weighs 24 lbs. That's the same weight as she was on her first birthday. Maybe this broken leg and less active lifestyle will help her pack on a few pounds.

Cognitively she is doing really well. She should have a 20 word vocabulary and say 2 word phrases. She probably knows 2000 words literally and says 6 word sentences on a regular basis. She told the dr. all about her leg and how it got hurt. I guess I'm happy she's ahead in language vs. weight. There's plenty of time to catch up in the eating department!!

  1. Way to go Gracie! Your check-up sounded great, even if you have to take it easy on your poor leg. It won't be too long before you are up running around again.

  2. So happy she is getting around so well! Hopefully no cast for trick or treating or Elmo will just have to ride in the wagon for the night. Love you Grace! Aunt Rose
