The Hotel Water Park

Grace loves the lazy river best! Daddy and Mommy love riding the tubes down the 4-story pitch black tube slides!

Above the play structure is a giant bucket that slowly fills with water. When it gets full it dumps all over the structure. Right before it dumps a bell rings. Grace doesn't like getting dumped on and she has learned what the bell means so when she hears it she runs out when all the other kids are running in!

Vacation Day 5

Grace let us sleep in until 6:30 this morning! After breakfast we visited the train museum. Grace enjoyed climbing in and on all the old trains. Ehh-Ehh even got to go along. Attached to the train museum was the Children's Museum so we spent some time there too. This afternoon we played at the water park and rested before heading back down to the harbour for dinner and a walk out to a lighthouse. Grace refused to nap at all today so she was exhausted by the time we got back to the hotel. She layed down on the floor to watch Elmo and promptly fell asleep.

Vacation Day 4

We had a very busy day! Grace decided 4:50 was a great time to start the day. She knows there's fun stuff outside and wouldn't go back to bed. We went down by the shore again... bigger waves today! After a nap and lunch and a quick stop at the park we went to the aquarium. Then we spent some time at the hotel's water park. After another nap Grace and Mommy drove down to McDonalds while Daddy rested. We were eating when suddenly Daddy showed up. He spotted a huge ship out the hotel window headed for the harbour. We have been wanting to see one so he ran to McDonalds (we had taken the car!) to get us. We drove down to the harbour and made it just before they raised the bridge to let the ship through. We got to watch the ship come in. Grace loved it. After that we decided to make the most of the beautiful evening (mid 70's) and took a horse and buggy ride along the board walk. We topped the evening off with ice cream! Grace stayed up until 9:30... what a trooper!

We couldn't take pictures of the fish at the aquarium but here's Grace steering a ship and petting a moose.

She found a rock trail and insisted we follow it vs. the sidewalk!

We saw a sailboat race from our hotel balcony.

This is the ship we saw come in.

This was our horse "Doc".

Vacation Day 3

This morning we went down to the shore to throw rocks in the lake.

Mommy made a G with rocks.

Daddy and Grace found cool rocks to throw in the water.

Grace enjoyed climbing on the big rocks.

After a nap we went to lunch at Canal Park/Harbour and watched boats come in and out. Grace loved watching the bridge go up and down to let the ships through.

She chased the pigeons.

But the highlight of her day for sure was... getting ice from the ice machine at the hotel! We don't even use ice but she is fascinated with filling the bucket. All the way back to the room she shows everyone she passes her ice.

Vacation Day 2

We spent the first part of our day at Mall of America.

Grace and Mommy posed with Blue from Blue's Clues.

Grace looked over all her choices at the theme park inside the mall.

Grace and Mommy rode on the carousel. Grace was very particular and only wanted to ride the zebra! Good thing we were first in line!

We then drove to Duluth Minn. a few hours north of Minneapolis. We are staying here the next four nights at an indoor water park resort right on the water of Lake Superior. This is the view from our room!

Build A Bear

Grace went to Build A Bear at Mall of America today. She immediately said she wanted the monkey (most appropriate!)

She picked out a heart to put in her monkey.

Grace and Mommy ran the foot petal that filled her monkey with stuffing.

We chose minimal stuffing to make him floppy!

Grace gave him an air bath to fluff his monkey fur. Then she combed him.

After 20 minutes of trying to decide how to dress him we finally settled on a pink and white t-shirt. It's what all the cool monkeys are wearing these days! Last we made him a birth certificate. His name is Ehh- Ehh (the monkey noise is all Grace would say when it came time to name him so that's what's on his birth certificate!)

Grace and Ehh-Ehh slept the next few hours... That was hard work!

Collecting Apples

At one rest area on the way to Minn. Grace found an apple tree. She had fun collecting apples that had fallen off the tree. When we left she made a nice little pile for some lucky squirrel.

Vacation Day 1

We left home at 8 am and headed to Minn. The plan was to get as close to Minneapolis as possible and then find a motel. Grace was so good in the car that we made it all the way there by 3:30! We stopped twice along the way to run and play at parks. After checking into a hotel directly across the street from Mall of America we went swimming. Tonight we went to the mall and visited Lego World and ate at the Rainforest Cafe.

Grace got to see her hero Spongebob live and in person!

Woody is made of all Legos!

Grace really got into building with Legos.

Grace got a giant drink at the Rainforest Cafe and was insistant she do it by herself!

The Moon is Real

Apparently Grace didn't realize the moon was real and existed outside books. We left our friends' house tonight and Grace spotted the moon. All the way home she repeated "Moon in sky" and kept looking for it out the window. She has several books with moons in the illustrations and always points them out but this was the first time she made the connection with the real moon. It was cute!

RIP Dorothy

We are sad to say that our beloved Dorothy passed away this morning. She leaves behind her four sisters; Dorothy, Dorothy, Dorothy, and Dorothy.
Grace experienced her first fish flushing but it didnt seem to phase her.
RIP Dorothy!

Dorothy the Fish

Grace got five gold fish, all named Dorothy. Elmo has a fish named Dorothy on Sesame Street so of course all fish have to be named Dorothy now.
