The cupcakes before we found out the gender...
Those who thought the baby would be a girl...
Those who thought the baby would be a boy...
The before shot...
The after shot...
Grace is going to have her first cousin in February. Uncle Andy and Aunt Lindsay are having a baby. This weekend we had a gender party where the bakery made cupcakes filled with pink or blue depending on the gender. Not even Andy and Lindsay knew the gender. The dr. sealed the results of the gender ultrasound and they took it to the bakery. Last night we all bit into our cupcakes and found out that they are having... A GIRL! We are all shocked {we all thought it was a boy for sure} and super excited. Grace will have a new girl cousin to be best friends with! Now they just have to think of a name since they were only thinking of boy names. I can't wait to see Uncle Andy holding a little pink bundle!

Waiting and waiting and waiting
We spent 2 1/2 hours at the orthopedic surgeons office today. We were running out of ways to keep Grace entertained in the exam room waiting for the dr. She wasn't supposed to stand on her leg so we were desperately trying to think of ways to keep her busy!

Leg Update
Grace broke her cast! I think it's from banging it on the side of the crib. So this weekend I let her take it off since it was pinching her skin where it was broken. While it was off I noticed she was limping and the she flung herself out of her crib which probably didn't help the leg situation. We went back to the dr today to get a new cast but when he saw her limp he was concerned because it isn't consistent with her original break. She shouldn't be walking on her heel like she is. So we got sent back to the lab for more x-rays. (I can't wait to get the bill for 3 sets of x-rays!!) Then we got the best news!... Are you ready for this?.... We can't let her put any pressure on her foot until we hear back from the dr with the results of the x-ray! How in the world do you keep a very active 2 year old off her feet? Duct tape?? Anyways... We should hear back tomorrow if she gets a new cast or what the new plan is! Stay tuned for the next installment of Our Adventures with Gracie's Leg!!

Big Girl Bed
I was dreading this day! Grace is in a big girl bed starting tonight. I loved her crib because I didn't have to worry about her getting up. During her nap today she flung herself out of her crib. Jacob and I heard a loud crash followed by crying and when I checked the video monitor her crib was empty! We decided s big girl bed was better than another broken leg. Her crib converts into a toddler bed then into a double bed. After a few hours of searching for the pieces to convert the bed we got it all set up. As you can see from the picture, Grace has added a few touches of her own... Just the essentials... You know, a pumpkin, her offering box, some Halloween decorations, and a camera. She's set for the night!

Mommy/Daughter Day
Monday there was no school for fall break so Grace and Mommy went back to the pumpkin patch for a day of fun together. Grace enjoyed the corn bin.
She hung out in the spider web.
She found another perfect pumpkin!
Even a broken leg won't hold Grace back from her love of slides!
Grace and Mommy had a great time at the pumpkin patch!

Leg Update
Grace went back to the dr. today to have her leg checked and for her two year checkup. They x-rayed her leg again because the first x-ray was very unclear as to how bad the beak was. Those type of fractures don't show up well until they begin to heal. They thought the pain was more a sprain. A sprain should be getting better and she still isn't using it so the dr. decided another look would be good. The break was more evident this time so we have to keep her cast on again for 2 weeks and go back for another checkup. We were trying to slowly take away the cast and get her to use her leg but now they want us to leave it on and discourage walking on it. Poor baby! All week we have been pushing her to try and walk and use it more and more without a cast and now we are changing the plan on her!
In other news Grace has grown a lot! Her height is now in the 75th percentile for her age meaning she is taller than 75% of kids her age that number is 85% if we adjust for her being premature. Her weight is another story. That's at the 20th percentile and she weighs 24 lbs. That's the same weight as she was on her first birthday. Maybe this broken leg and less active lifestyle will help her pack on a few pounds.
Cognitively she is doing really well. She should have a 20 word vocabulary and say 2 word phrases. She probably knows 2000 words literally and says 6 word sentences on a regular basis. She told the dr. all about her leg and how it got hurt. I guess I'm happy she's ahead in language vs. weight. There's plenty of time to catch up in the eating department!!

Grace Playing
Here is Grace playing without her cast. We let her take it off to play to see if she will start using that leg. She will crawl but still won't put weight on it.

First Broken Bone
Grace fractured her lower right leg. Grandpa was taking her down a tornado slide and she twisted her leg apparently! She refused to walk or put weight on it. I took her to the dr yesterday and got it x-rayed. It's a small vertical fracture. She got a 3 sided cast that we can slip off for baths. The cast is for support and comfort not for setting the bones... those will heal themselves. We aren't sure how long she'll be in this.
